Concentration

PDI MONO COMPETITION Round 2
Mono Competition Division A

Comments

I took Vince's advice and converted the colour image into mono so that the green grass background would be less distracting and added a vignette to help concentrate the focus on the rider. It seems to have worked out O.K. However, the judge criticised the tones. When I carried out the conversion in Lightroom I first worked on the colour image to ensure a full histogram to ensure maximum dynamic range. I then converted each colour individually to try and make the image as punchy as possible while retaining all shades of grey from white to black ensuring detail was not lost in the black region. So where did I go wrong? I can't see, from a histogram point of view, that I could have done any more. Advice / suggestions welcome!!

How about if you send the original to three other photographers to see the result they get when they process it.  There are some out there who are very good at this and then see the result they get and how they did it.  Any volunteers?

I'll have a go for you, would require the original file tho'

Tom, Andrew - Brilliant! I am away from home at the moment but will sort out sending the original file when I return. Thanks for the offers.

would love to have a go tooo.  Raw file would be great.  Pass it through dropbox, dead easy :~)..... Sorry if you didn't get the score you were after :p

Will send you the Raw file as well Vince when I return. Actually I wasn't unhappy with 18 as I thought it probably didn't deserve much more. The reason I posted my original comment was that I couldn't exactly see how in processing I was going to be able to make it much better!!

What you are going to do Eric, is to send them all a different file, put all the results together and enter it in a creative as a different image, then get a twenty, dirty deads Mr Young lol.

So Tom, Andrew, Vince I just have to work out how to use dropbox to share this file with you!

Submitted by eric-young on Thu 10 Dec 2015 5:33pm

got it!!

Right, I was not not sure whether I should be sharing the folder or setting up a link to the folder. Setting up a link seemed to give all and sundry (outside the club!) access to all my folders so I am not sure what is the most secure way to do this!

OK, I have worked out that the safe way is to share the folder, so if Tom and Andrew can send me their email addresses say via Melanie (rather than the website) then I can email you an invitation to the dropbox folder for you to access the file!

OK, ignore the previous bulletin, I have just discovered the club's messaging system!!!
